Part 1
After Duo dropped off his
shipment of machine parts he and Quatre waited in the office of Quatre’s
loading dock. Earlier, Quatre had
gotten a call for Midas’s first son the aristocratic Elite Zechs Marquiese. Zech’s had told him that he suspected there
were rebels conducting illegal activities in or around his facilities. The five buildings own by the young merchant
covered almost three city blocks.
Zech’s would be conducting a sweep of the area through out the night.
“What don’t execute them? I don’t understand some of these mongrels
are rather loutish and would rather died than come along quietly,” Duo
complained his long dark gold braid twitching in irritation. His wide violet eyes narrowed in anger at
Quatre.
“Yes, but that is the order,”
Quatre explained for the second time.
It was rare that two Elites
from such different statuses were friends.
Quatre was of the highest of the merchant class Elites and nearly an
aristocrat with his ash blond coloring and aqua-blue eyes. Duo was of the Traders Guild and one of the
Midas’s lower Elite members.
It was during one of Duo’s
first ventures in trade that he struck up a friendship with the rich merchant,
Quatre. Always a good merchant, Quatre
allowed it not realizing until a few years later that he had truly made a
friend.
Quatre shared Duo’s
annoyance. For they had to stave off
their trip and it was that which Duo was really disappointed about. He was anxious about their trip to the Class
A pet screening.
Quatre and Duo were close in
age and now that they were in their late teens they were around the age that
most Elites started to have mating partners or if they could afford it a pet or
two. Quatre had wanted to pick out his
very first pet and he had invited Duo to come with him. Going to a Class A pet screening was a rare
opportunity for an Elite like Duo. A
lower Elites could never afford the excusive and skillfully bred pets for the
crème of Midas’s society.
“I don’t see what he wants
you for,” Duo said continuing his complaint.
“There are probably more
than one and Zechs wants to make sure that they don’t get away. We probably won’t see any action,” Quatre
replied. He was too dignified to openly
voice something as petty as a complaint even if he did agree with Duo.
Zech’s had told Quatre he
was to wait in his office just in case the thieves tried to use the terminals
for an emergency call. Quatre didn’t
think the mongrels would be that stupid.
Suddenly he remembered something important in the shipment he had just
gotten in. The machine parts that he
ordered could create a radio if someone knew how to put the parts
together. Quatre quickly checked the
shipment and realized that the parts filled cargo bays C and D. Those areas were in a distant and isolated
part of his warehouse, a perfect place for the mongrels to go.
“I truly doubt a mongrel is
smart enough to do that but we would look quite foolish sitting here if that
was their goal the whole time,” Duo said after hearing Quatre’s fears.
“I’ll go and check out the
bays, you must stay here that was Zechs’s order.”
Duo did not think that the
mongrels would be building a radio when they could simply use the office
terminal but they could be stealing them.
That would make more sense to him.
Duo was not surprised when
he got to bays C and D and found them to be empty, literally. The mongrels had stolen the cargo in both
bays. Duo was pissed not because he had
lost any money for once Quatre had signed off on the shipment his end of the
bargain was complete. He was pissed
because if word got out he and Quatre would be the laughingstocks of the entire
merchant and trade guilds.
Duo raced to the unloading
docks and found both deserted. He hoped
that Zechs was able to catch the miscreants as he headed back to the office he
heard the sounds of a struggle.
********************
Duo was only gone a few
seconds when door opened again. At
first Quatre thought he had forgotten something but the wild black hair mongrel
holding a gun on him quickly disproved that.
The mongrel had very dark intense blue eyes. He was wearing tight jeans and a green tank top. Since Quatre was still young he was almost
the same height as him.
“Step back Blondie,” Heero
said keeping his gun trained on the other.
At first Heero was going to
run for it. His orders were specific,
run don’t fight and never be captured but when he noticed that the Blondie was
quite young and that he had not reached his full growth, he decided to chance
it.
“I don’t take orders from
mongrels,” Quatre said haughtily moving towards him.
Heero quickly aimed and
fired. He wasn’t taking any chances,
Blondies were usually strong and fast.
At such a close range he could not possibly miss. He didn’t but the protective body force
field Quatre had caused the bullet to ricochet. The bullet hit the wall and a fleck clipped him on his left
ear. Heero flinched to the right
instinctively and before he could make a second shot Quatre knock the gun from
his gasp and swung at his right.
Heero dodged to the left but
Quatre sent him a flying punch to the jaw.
The Blondie was moving so fast he didn’t have time fully dodge each blow
so his shoulder to the brunt of the next punch instead. The blow sent him flying into the walls. The impact of it stole his breath.
He realized that he could
not possibly beat this Blondie even one so close in size as himself. He had to get away so he did the unexpected
he charged him.
Quatre was not expecting the
mongrel to charge him and since they were close in body weight the mongrel was
able to propelled him back into a wall with a loud crash. The impact caused air to whoosh out of his
lungs. Quatre was stunned for a moment
and quickly realized that he was in trouble.
For a second Heero had the
Blondie pinned to the wall and so he reached into his pocket and pulled out a
lazar blade. He opened the blade and
stabbed downward but last minute the Blondie grabbed his wrist. Heero struggled to bring the blade down.
Quatre was shocked he never
knew a mongrel could be this strong and right now he was in trouble. He could not hold this guy off forever and
since they were so close in weight he could not throw him off.
Heero wasn’t sure if he was
going to make it the Blondie really strong.
Desperately he pressed and realized that the lazar blade was inching
down. It was slowly getting
closer. A few fine hairs on the
Blondie’s head sizzled and burned away.
An inch more that’s all he needed.
